Tournament Background:
The Annual Ryukyukan Karate & Kobudo Tournament hosted by Ramtown Karate in Dixon, California, is an integral part of the martial arts community and draws on a rich tradition of Okinawan and Japanese karate. This event is promoted by Ramtown Karate, Inc., and the Ryukyukan International Karatedo Kobudo Federation. Modified USA Karate Rules (2 corner Judges) KATA 1. Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate Divisions may repeat kata in every round. 2. Advanced Divisions must perform a kata different from the previous round. 3. All Divisions may only perform kata on their respective list in the Official Kata List (USA Karate or WKF). KUMITE 1. Judges and the Referee all have mutual responsibility for points. 2. The Referee will show points that are made in his/her field of play. The Referee´s signals are indicated by touching his/her torso with the elbow while indicating the respective signal. 3. Points are awarded by majority (if two Judges, or one Judge plus the Referee, agree on the score). 4. If the two Judges, or one Judge and the Referee, show different points for the same competitors, the higher point will be given. 5. The following scale is used for awarding of points: a. YUKO (1 point) is awarded for Tsuki (straight punch) or Uchi (strike) to a scoring area. b. WAZA-ARI (2 points) is awarded for CHUDAN kicks c. IPPON (3 points) is awarded for JODAN kicks or any technique against an opponent with any part of the body other than the feet in contact with the mat. 6. Tie-Breaker: The higher number of IPPON awarded; The higher number of WAZA ARI awarded; If the number of IPPON and WAZA ARI are equal, the Referee will call for HANTEI, a final majority vote of the officials. 7. In addition to showing points, Judges will signal for Jogai and contact warnings. 8. Warnings/Penalties are given by majority. The Referee may request Judge support. 9. For Competitors under 14 no contact is allowed with hand or foot Jodan techniques. Competitors may score with a properly executed throw or sweep. 10. For categories 14 to 17 years of age skin touch is allowed for kicks only. Skin touch is defined as touching the target without transferring energy into the head or body. Competitors may score with a properly executed throw or sweep. 11. Matches will be 1:30 running time for Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Under 14 Advanced Divisions. Time may be stopped or added at the Referee’s discretion. 12. For Advanced Divisions, ages 14+, Matches will be 2:00 stop time. Established in 2001, the "November Tournament" has earned a reputation as Northern California’s premier showcase of traditional martial arts. The tournament now attracts several hundred athletes from multiple states and countries, competing in traditional kata, kobudo, point-kumite, and knockdown, including 50+ and para-karate divisions, all under the supervision of certified referees.

Liability Release and Consent:

Competitor Agreement and Release ¨In consideration of my being permitted to compete in the Ryukyukan International Karate and Kobudo Tournament to be held at Dixon High School, Dixon California on Saturday November 8, 2025 (hereafter referred to as the Tournament). I agree on behalf of myself, and my heirs, successors, and assigns as follows: ¨I agree to abide by the Tournament rules and to accept the official's decisions. ¨I release Ryukyukan, Ramtown Karate, Dixon Unified School District, the Tournament, promoters and all the competitors, officers, employees, instructors and representatives from all liability and claims which I may have against any of them for any injury of whatever kind, or death, resulting form my participation in the Tournament or in traveling to, from or about the Tournament, whether or not such claim be based upon negligence of such person or entity. ¨I accept full financial obligations for medical expenses, incurred for medical, hospitalization and other expenses related to injury or death resulting from my participation in the tournament or in traveling to, from or about the Tournament. ¨I release and hold harmless Dixon Unified School District, the Tournament, and all other officers, employees, instructors and representatives from claims or liability for those expenses described in Paragraph 2 above. ¨I understand that first aid will be offered for any injury incurred at the Tournament (unconsciousness is implied consent) and local Emergency Medical Services will be called if deemed necessary. ¨I consent to the use, free of any compensation to me, of any photographs or videos taken of me in connection with the Tournament. ¨Under 18 Years of Age requires approval and acceptance by parent or guardian: ¨The undersigned, parents or legal guardians of the competitor listed below, have read the foregoing, understand the same and do hereby accept and agree to the terms, conditions and provisions of the foregoing, indemnify on behalf of ourselves and said minor, intending to be legally bound hereby.
