• 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: USA Karate Coaches’ Education Course & LicensingRegistration for both courses must be completed through TournamentInABox. USA Karate coaching licenses will become mandatory in 2027 for USA Karate–sanctioned events but are optional for this tournament.

Liability Release and Consent:
Silicon Valley Open Karate Championship
Adult & Minor Amateur Athletic Waiver and Release of Liability
Location: Pioneer High School, San Jose, CaliforniaIn consideration of being allowed to participate in any way in the Silicon Valley Open Karate Championship (SVO)—including practices, warm-ups, competition, and all related events and activities—the undersigned participant (and/or the parent or legal guardian of a minor participant) agrees to the following:
1. Assumption of Risk
I understand and acknowledge that martial arts activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to serious injury, permanent disability, paralysis, death, property damage, and economic or social losses. These risks may result from my own actions, the actions of others, equipment conditions, facility conditions, tournament rules, or unforeseeable circumstances. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the Releasees, and accept full responsibility for my participation.
2. Release of Liability & Indemnification
I hereby release, waive, and hold harmless the following parties (“Releasees”): the Silicon Valley Open Karate Championship organizers; United Bay Area Karate Club (UBAKC) and collaborating dojos; Pioneer High School and the San Jose Unified School District; the City of San Jose; tournament directors, referees, judges, coaches, staff, volunteers, and administrators; sponsors, vendors, media partners, and advertisers; and owners, operators, and lessors of the premises. I release these parties from any and all liability, claims, demands, or causes of action for injury, disability, death, or property damage arising out of participation, whether caused by the negligence of the Releasees or otherwise.
For minor participants, I, as the parent or legal guardian, also agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Releasees from any and all claims related to my child’s participation, even if arising from negligence.
3. Compliance & Conduct
I agree to follow all tournament rules, instructions, and safety guidelines. If I observe unsafe conditions, I will remove myself and notify an official. Tournament officials may refuse entry or remove any participant, coach, or spectator for unsafe, disruptive, or unsportsmanlike conduct.
4. Medical Treatment & First Aid
I understand that only basic first-aid care may be provided and that any additional medical treatment or emergency transport is my financial responsibility. I authorize first-aid treatment as needed.
5. No Refund Policy
I understand that all entries are final and no refunds will be issued for any reason, including illness, injury, withdrawal, schedule changes, or disqualification.
6. Insurance Requirement
I acknowledge that all athletes must have active health or medical insurance to participate. By selecting “I Agree,” I afirm that I (or my child) am currently covered.
7. Statement of Health
I certify that I (or my child) am physically able to participate safely in this event and have no medical conditions that would reasonably prevent participation.
8. Photo, Video, Media Coverage & Promotion
I understand that the event may be photographed, filmed, recorded, or livestreamed. I grant full permission to tournament organizers, UBAKC, Pioneer High School, media partners, sponsors, and vendors to photograph, record, or film me (or my child) and to use my (or my child’s) image, voice, likeness, or performance in any media format, including social media, websites, livestreams, marketing materials, advertising, and future promotional content. I understand that such media may be used now or in the future for promotional, archival, commercial, or educational purposes, and I waive all rights to compensation, royalties, or approval for any media use. I also understand that spectators may appear incidentally in media.
AGREEMENT
By signing below or selecting “I Agree,” I certify that I have read and fully understand this Waiver and Release of Liability and voluntarily accept all terms. If the participant is under 18, I certify that I am the parent or legal guardian and agree on their behalf.
